Fed: CSIRO chief dies

CANBERRA, Feb 8 AAP - CSIRO chief and top-level government adviser Malcolm McIntosh
died last night after a long illness, Industry, Science and Resources Minister Nick Minchin
said today.

Dr McIntosh, 54, was made a Companion of the Order of Australia last year in recognition
of his work in scientific and technological research and public awareness of the need
for science.

He was chief executive of the CSIRO from 1996 and was responsible for reshaping the
agency's scientific effort for the future.
