FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. "I am a survivor," Tillie Tooter said Fridayas she sat in a wheelchair, the left part of her forehead covered bya purple bruise and her body itchy from hundreds of insect bites.
No kidding.
To get through a three-day ordeal in her wrecked car inches abovethe muck of a swamp, she had a cough drop, a peppermint and one stickof gum. She absorbed rainwater with golf socks and sucked on them toprevent dehydration.
"I come from Brooklyn, N.Y., and if you don't learn to survivethere, you are not going to make it at any place," the 83-year-oldgrandmother said.
